LOTSA POPPA 1978 Boxing Style Poster Sam Cooke Soul Atlanta
Original first printing cardboard "boxing style" poster for LOTSA POPPA ("400 POUNDS OF SOUL") playing at the LIVING ROOM LOUNGE in Atlanta in 1978. SAM COOKE and DINAH WASHINGTON dubbed him "LOTSA POPPA" while on tour in Chicago. JULIUS HIGH, aka "LOTSA POPPA", toured in the 1960s with JAMES BROWN, JIMMY REED and the INK SPOTS. In the 1970s, he toured with SAM COOKE, WILSON PICKETT, DION WARWICK, SOLOMON BURKE and THE DRIFTERS. Excellent to near mint condition with light wear. Measures 13 3/4" x 22". According to the ART OF ROCK, this poster style evolved from carnival-circus-vaudeville advertising, and it was often in these types of venues where boxing originally took place.
