TOP QUALITY COPY of “Unissued” Photo ID Card of WW2 Soviet SMERSH Counterintelligence Officer.
This is a High-Quality FAKE which closely resembles the original. The document is made of quality materials. The front shows impressed Soviet military emblem of star with hammer & sickle, and inscription “NKO (People’s Commissariat for Defense), Main Directorate of Counterintelligence ‘SMERSH’”.  The internal pages have provision for a photos as well as entries for the name, position / rank of the owner, and date of issue. These entries are blank so they can be filled out and an “appropriate” photo and fake stamp can be added (we see a lot of those on the market, usually offered for sale as originals!).
Fakes like this one are currently made in Russia and Ukraine to sell to unsuspecting beginner collectors and foreign tourists. They often show “genuine” heavy wear and even soiling and damage to make them look more convincing. Sometimes they are sold as a part of a large “group” of awards. Buyers beware!
Even though this is a fake, it is a nice item to have as a study example or to else to use as a display case “filler” (original SMERSH IDs of this type are rare and pretty expensive). Also, great if you want to put your own photo inside and use it to interrogate your friends and family members.
