These instructions are for use by the Operator/Crew, Organizational, Direct Support and General Support Maintenance personnel, providing information on installation, operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of the various mounts and equipment. Also included are repair parts and special tools lists.
    1-7. Description
    a. Machine Gun Mounts. Machine gun mounts (figs 1-1 through 1-7) are component assemblies upon which a machine gun is directly mounted. They are composed of a cradle, pintle, ammunition box tray, securing pins or latches, and a travel lock pin. The purpose of a machine gun mount is to hold a machine gun and ammunition, and provides the capability to elevate, depress, and traverse the machine gun. Machine gun mounts are to be installed into a pintle socket of a post, pedestal, ring or cupola mount, located on the vehicle.
    b. Pedestal Gun Mounts. Pedestal mounts (figs 1-8 through 1-10) are component assemblies designed for installation on 1/4 ton vehicles to support a machine gun mount. They are composed of a pintle socket, pintle clamping screw, column, and braces.
    c. Mounts, Gun Ring. Ring mounts (figs 1-11 through 1-21) are component assemblies designed for installation on trucks or combat vehicles to support a machine gun mount. They are composed of a machine gun mount, pintle socket, pintle clamping screw, ring assembly and brake assembly. Some models contain a backrest assembly. Ring mounts generally are installed to vehicles by supports or legs attached to the vehicle; however, some ring mounts are attached directly to the vehicle. Mount, gun, ring 1005-774-6836 is not illustrated in this manual, however it is composed of a M49A1 type ring assembly (fig 1-16) and a machine gun mount for the 7.62-MM, M60 Machine Gun (fig. 1-1) and has supports, front and rear, for attaching to the M548 Carrier the same as the Caliber .50 Mount illustrated in figure 1-21.
    d. Machine Gun Mounts, M48 Tank Cupolu. Machine gun mounts 7364875 and 8346119 (fig 1-22) for the M48 tank cupola are component assemblies, designed for installation to the forward part of the commanders cupola to support a caliber .50, M2 machine gun. These mounts are composed of a cradle assembly, ammunition container assembly, three gear case assemblies and a mount frame assembly.
The pictures are very usable and not washed out or too dark like many of the manuals I have seen that from copy machines.
This is laser printed on 24 pound paper.
Copy paper is generally 20 pound and you can feel the difference.
It is bound with GBC plastic combs so that it will lay flat.
If you would like I can, rather than bind with the plastic comb, three hole punch it for your binder.
    8.5 x 11 inch format ~ 154 Pages.
If you are collecting military manuals or looking for a prop to display at your next show, this is not the manual you want.
If you want some usable information on the truck you are preparing for the next parade, that will lay flat on your bench when you are working on that pride and joy or some period information on how it was done back forty years ago while you curl up in front of the fire this winter, this is the one you need.
